What do 10-year-olds think a membrane is?

In their latest school visit, Rachel Lewis and Rebecca Cooper visited Weston All Saints Primary School to deliver an interactive, hands-on learning experience to Year 5.

They asked, “What is a membrane?” before – and after – the session. Take a look at our LinkedIn post to see a selection of the pupils’ answers and see how ideas changed!

Here’s a sneak peak at some of their answers, written at the end of the session, and without any adult support:

Research shows that engineering is still commonly associated with hard hats and car mechanics, particularly among young people — and that the term engineer is often misused in the media.

Initiatives such as National Engineering Day, led by the Royal Academy of Engineering as part of the ThisisEngineering campaign, aim to challenge these misconceptions by introducing young people to real engineers: https://lnkd.in/euzzDmtc

We look forward to joining the Brilliantly Engineered event in February at the BRLSI as we continue to supporting the important mission of demonstrating the breadth, creativity and impact of engineering: https://lnkd.in/eUkaFG8j

Huge thanks to the team at Weston All Saints Primary School for fitting us into their timetable – and especially to the pupils, who amazed us with their ability to quickly learn, understand and independently explain some tricky concepts!
