What questions do 9-10 year-olds have about membrane science?

Rachel Lewis and Rebecca Cooper had the privilege of visiting St Stephen’s Primary School to teach about filtration, talk about membrane science, and share examples of how our SynHiSel researchers are working to solve some of the world’s most important challenges. The enthusiasm from the pupils was incredible.

After the session, each child was asked to submit one question for our SynHiSel researchers here at the University of Bath to answer.
From “What’s the most useful membrane?” to “If you could make any kind of membrane, what would it be?” and “Can you make a hole smaller than a water molecule?”, their questions were brilliant – thoughtful, imaginative, and surprisingly technical!
Huge thanks to Shiqi Huang, Farhad Moghadam, PhD, Chang Qu and Ziqi Yang for their help in answering the questions – and even bigger thanks to the children who submitted them. Who knows? Maybe one day they’ll be the engineers answering them!
We hope that outreach events like these will help to inspire the next generation of engineers, scientists, and problem-solvers.
