Facilitated transport membranes offer ultra-high selectivity via carrier-mediated transport. Biological membranes (i.e., in nature) often transport ions or molecules using such a mechanism, indicating that it can be highly efficient. In SynHiSel we will tune facilitatedtransport carriers for different permeants, construct facilitated-transport membrane modules for bench-scale testing, and use various modelling approach to inform process optimisation for industrial applications.
