SynHiSel Research Associates Ziqi Yang and Farhad Moghadam (University of Bath) delivered hands-on, family-friendly activities at this year’s Somerscience Festival.
The Somerscience Festival is a community-led, annual celebration of discovery, showcasing the exciting STEM research, innovation, and industries thriving across Somerset, connecting the public with academics, businesses, and innovators.
Ziqi and Farhad demonstrated membrane selectivity – a material property that our network is using to develop better ways to:
· Capture carbon
· Clean water
· Recover rare minerals
· Store energy more effectively.
Progress in these areas in the lab, alongside our partnerships with industry, could enable us to move the UK closer to net zero targets, and save millions of pounds.
But more than that, we want to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers.
Events like these are a wonderful way to make STEM accessible and inspiring for everyone: sparking curiosity at every age, and empowering communities to engage with the scientific ideas and decisions shaping their future.
Thank you, Ziqi and Farhad, for engaging 100s of new people with membrane science and chemical engineering.
